Eric Metaxas is a Christian writer best known for his biography f Dietrich Bonhoeffer wrirten I think around 2010. He wrote another book more recently, came ourt about six months ago I think, titled Letter To The American Church, which I only heard about yesterday. I saw some interviews with him at You Tube abou5t the book and I thinjk it's an extremely important book that all the churches in America sould become familir with.
Since I can't read the book I'm restricted to what I've heard in his interviews. I hope the book is more detailed on various subjects but even if it isn't it's an important book.

He describes the situation in Germany in the thirties, before the full-on horror of the Nazis has come about. His focus is on the churches who for the most part were not speaking out against Hitler, and his point is that their silence gave Hitler the freedom to do what he ended up toing. He says that the American church is now in that same situation with respect to the political situation we are now experiencing, that too many churches are keeping silence when they should be speaking out against what is happening, the undermining of our Constitutional rights, the censoring of citizens who have opinions contrary to the party in power, the Democrats, the intimidatinon tactics we are experiencing to keep us silent but also the excuses given by the churches that they base on the Bible to justify keeping out of political matters.
He says that is where Germany was and that if we continue in this policy of silence great horrors will be unleashed here just as they were in Germany. Onlyh now it's not about nationalism, it's about anti nationalism, it's about globalism, the destruction of nations. Today's fascism is the Communistic bent of the Democratic Party, Cultural Marxism and all the evil antiAmerican policies that have already been enacted to destroy the nation and our Constitution.
The book is an exhoration to break our silence, recognize the dangers of it, recognize the church's role as conscience of the nation and stand against the tyranny that is closing in oun us from the Left.
We are already feeling it. Are you afraid to speak out? You're already feeling it. It's already here. Are their subjects you try to avoid talking about? Are you afraid of being punished if you ring them up? It's already here. We can hope it's nopt too late but it's already here. Mewtaxas says this is the only book he's written where he's had such a strong sense that God was pusing him to write it, that he always writes in obedience to God but that this gbook had the strongest impetus from God. That's a hopeful sign that maybe it isn't too late, maybe we can make a difference if we get up the courage to speak out.
So I spent some time examining myself and found a lot of cowardice in me despite the fact that I do try to face down the intimidating that I feel all the time for simply holding the opinions I holdre. I had to notice that I do worry about what I write on my blog even though they've alreaady just about destroyed it and nobody reads it any more. I still worry that they could take the whole blog away from me. Although I still try to stay honest I'm away tat there is some pulling of punshes going on nevertheless. And where else do I have to speak out? I'm a loner who hardly ever goes out, I can't see well enough to write much and when I do write, such as my blogs, it's full of mistakes. and nobody reads itg anyway. Or few do. I'm aware of a few who read it and I'm grateful for those.
Then last night I asked God to show me what I could do besides my blog, not really expecting an answer, and maybe an hour or so later it came into my mind that I could wear a MAGA hat. Strange idea out of the blue. I don't normally wear signs of any sort, never had bumber stickers on my car or that sort of thing, would never wear a MAGA hat, never. But I realized that it would be a way of not being silent oiuabout a general category of ideas at least.
I realized as soon as I began to think about ways not to be silent that this was going to cost. Metaxas does make that [int, there is big risk in volved in taking this particular stand at this time. The Left beats people up for wearing MAGA hats. They get told to lave places of business for wearing MAGA hats. If we drive around wearing one we can expenct our car to be vandalized. That's how they do it in fascist and Commmunist totalitarian countries and they are doing it here already. We no long er have freedom of speech and although the conservative talk show hosts talk about these things a lot it's very clear that the message hardly ever gets beyond the reach of their own audiences.If you talk to a Democrat, liberal, leftie you may find out to your astonishment that they do actually support the undermining of the Constitution we are experiencing although they think THEY are on the side of the Constitution and we are the e e my of America.
Our excuses are really from cowardice. They do scare us, they succeed at their intimidating tactics. Intimidation. I feel it when I type something wrong but since I can't read what I'm writing I can't go back and correct it. Sorry, I really hate writing so messily. Anyway, the average liberal is brainwashed, they believe only what they hear from the one=mainstream media and they believe it all,. Or most of them do.
YesYres, speaking out is going to cost, that's why we con't do it. We just tell ourselves oh it will get better, it can't go on forever like this, and there are signs of good things here and there, some good Supermeme Court decisions lately for instance. That the Democrats I know sithink are antiConstitutional decisions rather than the Constitution ones I know they are.
And if we do succeed in speaking out what will we accomplish? they'll just ignore us anyway, slander us, beat us up, it won't work anyway. We'll just keep on losing the verbal battle and tget phyiscally abused on top of it.
All that is cowardice. As Metaxias point out we can't let ourselves be indimidated by any of it. It isn't up to us to win a particular argument, we probably wont', we'll proabbly just be hated but that can't be an excuse. We have to be willing to lose. We have to be wsilling to pay the price and the price can be steep. Just keep plugging away at the truth no matter what. No matter what. No matter if we lose our blog our our social media platform or our access to familiar businesses or get our car vandalized or have to give up our tax credit if we are a churdch, that five oh one three C thing. Yes well probably have to give that up. Even our lives. Our health, our lives. EWven that.
And as Christians we have to remember that we have God to protexct ua dn our foxus has to be on prayer, prayer and more prayer. He will protect us but if He doeasn't it is worth the cost. that is what we have to keep in mind. Jesus says we must loise our lives for His sake, we much die to ourselves, we jmust take up our cross and follow him and that we are not worthy of Him if we don't. that's the message. All our trust has to be in Him, and that could take a LOT of prayer. Parayer for courage, courage to face all the things I've mentioned we could lose, to accept the loss and to true Him to take care of us in the fac4e of that lossl. I'm terrified of wearing a MAGA hat. Did God really ask me to do that? All I know is that I'd prayed about what dodo about breaking the silence and being sure the issues are out there and not being withheld, and some time later I had that thought bout the MAGA hat, not a thought I'd normally have on my own, or so it seems to me. No idea ever of wearing a MAGA hat but there it was in my mind and fairly soon after praying for understanding of what I could do to put myself out there and not contribute to the silence that is only going to bring worse down on us in the end. Yes, I do think God wants me to wear a MAGA hat. I've now got one on order.
but I'm going to need a on of prayer and wisdom. God's wisdom, I know I have none of my own.
U tgubj I think Metaxas is right, we absolutely need to do sonething. It is not going to get better, only worse. Totalitarians don't let up. They are scary because they are so self righteous they think everything is fine, censorship 8is fine, intimidating tactics are fine, kicking us out of public places is fine, kicking us off social media for sure is fine, beating us up is fine and even killing us is fine. They have no qualms about this and all because of self righteousness. they are so sure they are right. And that is exactly the sort of mentality the Constitution was meant to protect us from. How dsid we let it gt this far along?
